8820 Cryogenic operation & supply

Service group ( 4 persons ) for the entire institute. Operation of the PSI Helium refrigerators, the main users and supply of cryogenics ( liquid Helium & liquid Nitrogen ).

Responsibilities :

6 Helium Refrigerators ( SINQ, UCN, SULTAN, EH, 3HC, WKSB )

4 liquid Helium Main users ( 1 Muonchannel, SULTAN, the D2- source and UCN)

Liquid Helium supply with filling stations ( 7'000 litre liquid Helium ) and gas recovery systems

38 Helium dewars ( 100,250,450 litre )

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System, historical data analysis

4 liquid Nitrogen tanks ( 10'000 & 12'700 lt. )

Nitrogen gas supply ( ca. 2.5 bar )

about 42 Nitrogen dewars

Projects :

Special parts are the plant supervision and control system over all cryosystems, cooling System of a Muon channal µE1 , the MEG Experiment and the cryoplant of the D2- source. Small Cryo mechanical projects can be maintain by the group itself.
